In case you wanted to know, Penelope is fantastic. I will be going to see it for the third time tonight. (Don’t judge me. Don’t you dare judge me.) Absolutely fabulous. It may have the best movie kiss of all time. I mean, it is James McAvoy. That’s all I’m going to say, but here’s the trailer for your enjoyment (although, it’s even better than the trailer lets on). Oh, and the soundtrack? Amazing!

In case you were curious about what I’m doing tonight. Sarah and I are seeing this guy in concert because, well he’s amazing. Also, what would February be without a concert, or two? Crappy, that’s what.
And because I love my readers, here are a few of my faves!
My theme song: Big Girl (You Are Beautiful).
The ever so popular Grace Kelly.
A family fave (and by ‘family’ I really mean my friends, and really I mean Candice’s cute little boy): Lollipop.
And my personal favorite: Happy Ending.
ETA – KP’s favorite: Love Today.

Sarah and I went to see The Great Debaters tonight. Words cannot begin to describe what that experience was like…but since that’s what my blog is, words (mainly), I’m going to try.
With my involvement with Sowers of Hope, I am much more aware of prejudices and racism than I have been in a while. Really, the world is full of “old hatred”, as I call it. Hatred that I cannot even begin to understand. Sometimes I try and wrap my head around it, to get some sense of how a person, or a people, could hate enough to persecute, torture, kill, etc., but it never works. I’m just left completely baffled.
I remember reading Blood Brothers in preparation for study abroad in Israel (which I didn’t actually go on due to some extenuating circumstances). I was 18 and the book completely opened my eyes to see a side of Palestine that I had never considered. More recently, I read The Kite Runner and once again (as I am wont to do anytime I read or see something like that) wondered how on earth people could really hate another people enough to do such horrible, awful things to them and the way that hatred is passed on from generation to generation – “old hatred”.
Tonight, watching this movie, I felt that same confusion I always do when my mind is faced with such incomprehensible hatred. And my heart broke a little. I just sat in the movie wishing that I could make it (“it” as in racism, prejudices, hatred…the world) better.
So, that’s my plug (for the movie, and both of those books). And once you’ve seen the movie…buy the soundtrack (the instrumental one). Incredible. I’m listening to it right now. It’s on par with Braveheart, Last of the Mohicans, and Meet Joe Black. Seriously fantastic!
and the craziness continues
In case you wonder where I am until November 1st, I’ll explain:
I’ll be here, in P-town, getting everything I have to do done. What do I have to do? Funny you should ask.
- I still have 12 essays to write for grad school applications, most of which are due November 1st. And the four already written…well, there’s still some work to be done.
- As I mentioned, I volunteer for an NGO called Sowers of Hope (I’ll link the blog once I have permission). Today I received an email asking if I would be willing to translate some documents from French to English. Of course I said yes. And truthfully, it’s only EIGHT documents, so no big deal. Seriously, though, I am really excited to be doing this. Nothing like some translation to really hone in on those French skills. And this will allow me to become really familiar with the project and what the goals of it are.
- I am currently taking a French class and I am a little behind. Hopefully, I can get caught up this week.
- The MBA field studies project continues, with publishing on the horizon (just in the school’s magazine, but it’s still a big deal to me)
- I am totally sleep deprived and feeling pretty under the weather.
Yep…it’s time to take a blogging break. But, there will be many posts to look forward to…my pumpkin cheesecake post, Big Shot Karaoke, the end of the applications, and my birthday. So, while I am gone, please miss me and post encouraging comments and send emails. And I promise I will be back ASAP!
But before I go, let me give a shout out to Big Shot Karaoke, which will be my one social outing for the next week.
This Thursday Sarah, Candice, Kelly and I (and several of our friends) are headed to Comedy Sportz in P-Town for Big Shot Karaoke…and this time, there will be singing coming from us. So, if you are really missing me and want to stalk me and you are looking for something to do tomorrow night (after good t.v.), that’s where I’ll be. It starts at 9 p.m. P-town time.
what to do on a thursday night?

First and foremost, watch good t.v. (you know, 30 Rock and The Office).
After that, however, it’s time to KARAOKE! (Imagine the Asian guy from Iron Chef saying it like the WWE guy that says “Are you ready to rumble?” )
So, last Thursday, Sarah and I headed to Comedy Sportz in P-Town for Big Shot Karaoke. I wasn’t really sure what it would be like. You know, a bunch of non-drunk people singing karaoke. But, I have to tell you, it was seriously hilarious. There is a host and there are backup dancers, should you require them. And it was such a diverse crowd. My favorite act: an older Argentinian man singing a little Julio Iglesias (for those of you who don’t know who that is, he’s Enrique’s dad). It was AMAZING!!! Oh, and did I mention that there are judges? In character? It’s like having being part of a live version of Nintendo’s Karaoke Revolution Party.
Anyway, if you’re looking for something to do tonight, that’s where I’ll be. It starts at 9 p.m. P-town time. So, if you are stalking me, that’s where I’ll be. And if you are just looking for something a little different and super fun to do, that’s where you should be.
