a conference call

So, this summer I am heading to New York to intern with this company. Many have questioned my judgment considering some of the offers I had. (I was very blessed and had great offers from a few Fortune 100 companies.) At times I have even wondered if I made the right decision. I definitely didn’t make the “easy” decision or the “safe” decision, but yesterday I remembered just why I made the decision I did. It is an AMAZING opportunity!

Yesterday I had a conference call with my program coordinator, the new full-time hires, the other summer associates (aka interns), our mentors, and the Head of HR (for the entire company). It was so great to talk to everyone, get a feel for the people with whom I’ll be working, hear where the company is heading (in terms of HR), and really feel like I’ll get the opportunity to do some very meaningful work.

Not to mention the fact that I’ll be in New York with Sarah, Candice, and Emily.

it’s a race!

So, today at school we, the women of my MBA class, decided to race slinkies! It was brilliant! Seriously.

Unfortunately the picture with everyone (this one was before the races…with a few people not pictured) is pretty blurry. I think someone else got one, and I’ll be sure to post it if that turns out to be true.

Here is my committee from the Opening Social. This is why I was able to look so on top of things; a team of incredibly reliable individuals. I trusted them. They delivered. How nice is that?

The Opening Social went off without a hitch. We were left with a few too many buns (better than not enough), but only three hamburgers and maybe 10 hot dogs. I consider that pretty good planning. I have no idea how many people were there, but they ate just under 500 hamburgers and hot dogs. We had six grills going. It was crazy and fantastic.

And best of all, we came in under budget thanks to the help of Mathew’s fabulous wife, Monica, who did the price checking and purchasing at Sam’s Club, after I did the price checking at Costco. Yes, it took a little extra time, but by purchasing things at both locations, we managed to save around $50. On a tight budget, that’s a big deal.
