blog party…

So, I stepped out of my comfort zone and went to a blog party where I knew no one (well, other than stalking their blogs). I was teetering back and forth when Anne (Anne who I have yet to meet but will in less than two weeks) told me that I had to go so I could meet Annalisa (below) and Lori (below, below), among others.

Well, went I did and it was quite fun. Annalisa and Lori were just as fun as Anne thought they would be, plus I got to meet Annalisa’s cute sister’s, Laralee and Crystalyn. I think this will be the beginning of multiple, beautiful friendships. It was so fun to see all of these people in real life, people who I have admired, nay stalked, for a while. These women are even more amazing and beautiful in real life as they are in their blogs.

For more on the evening, you can visit Jill’s blog…she’s the grand master of the Blog Party. Thanks again, Jill, for a fabulous evening.

babies, babies, babies

In case you were all wondering why I was on such a cooking kick this week, it’s because Ashley, Lisa and I threw a little baby shower for Amanda. We all took on different parts of it and I volunteered to do food because I love any excuse to cook…or bake, specifically. Thankfully, my cute friend, Sarah, was able to come help with the baking…and be my personal photographer (my camera, her skills).

Ashley supplied the location (not a minor thing), a fantastic spinach artichoke dip (I’ll post the recipe when I get it) and pasta dish, and the cute favors (I didn’t get a pic of those).

Lisa was in charge of drinks and the game. I have heard of the poopy diaper game before, but never experienced it first hand. It was hilarious!

This is the little dress I gave Amanda from Old Navy. She was actually with me when I bought it, but it was so cute that I just couldn’t wait…plus, the fewer trips to Old Navy, the better. I have no control!Amanda – Congratulations again! We are all going to miss you when you leave us to be a full-time mommy!

new friends…

I ran in the Freedom Run this morning. I finally did a 10k (funny that I’m running a marathon in October). I was just going to do it on my own, but then I was reading Cropstar’s blog and saw that she was planning on coming up from Vegas to run the same race. I have done races on my own before, but it’s so much more fun when there’s someone there with you at the end. Someone who understands how tired you are, who knows what you mean when you say, “Wow, that hill was a killer.” So, an idea was born…and those of you who know me know that once I decide to do something, that’s it. So, I emailed Cropstar to see if she would mind if I tagged along with her.

I’m so glad I did. She was running it with her friend, Stacy, so I met up with both of them this morning just before the run. For whatever reason I was really nervous about this 10k. It’s not that I can’t or haven’t ever run 6.2 miles, but it was new for me and I had this idea in my mind that most people who do 10k’s are serious runners. While I run, I would never put myself in that category. So, because of the nerves, it was especially nice to have some people there to talk to before the race and people to run with during the race and people to whine to after the race. I loved it!

The best part, other than finishing the darn thing just a bit shy of my goal…which really was the best part, is that I can move Cropstar’s blog from the “blogs I stalk” list to the “people I know” list and that is super fun. Yes…I’m a big dork and I’m totally fine with that.

The Hotel

The Hotel is a nightclub in Salt Lake. My friend, Jean-Louis, told me about it after Sarah, Rachel, Catherine and I discovered that the club we had chosen off the internet was having an after-party for the derby and they (the derby people) provided their own crap d.j. Yes, derby, as in roller-derby. Who knew? I don’t know why I didn’t ask Jean-Louis when he had called me earlier that evening, but I didn’t. Whatever. Seriously, the sight of all of those derby girls in their outfits almost made the $5 cover charge worth it.

I had no idea such a club existed in Salt Lake. It was fantastic. It reminded of my days in Europe when my host sister and I hit the discotechs every weekend (at the ripe age of 15). I don’t know what my parents were thinking letting me head to Europe on my own at that age, but that’s a story for another day. Back to my point. Had I known such a club existed in Salt Lake I would not have waited a whole year to go.

I have not had that much crazy, let my hair down, “party likes it’s 1999” (which, incidentally, was a song that playing at the crap club) fun in a long time. The music was fabulous (great hip-hop remixes with a little bit of a techno vibe), the room was huge, the lighting was incredible and the crowd was so diverse, something I have missed since moving back to Happy Valley. And when Jean-Louis ended up meeting us there, it got even better. Apparently, when four women are dancing together, without any men in the circle, other men in the room feel it’s okay to bug them. And by bug, I mean touch, grope, leer, etc.

I cannot believe that I have waited so long to do that. I can tell this is going to become a relatively regular activity this summer, especially because Rachel leaves for Argentina in August and needs to get her fill , now that she knows what she’s been missing. And let me tell you, that girl can move! Seriously!

my own private reality

It’s really late and I should really be getting to bed…but you know when you just have so many thoughts roaming free in your head and until you can get them corralled, it’s fruitless to try and sleep. Well, maybe you don’t suffer from my malady, but that’s how I’m feeling right now.

Today was what I would call a perfect day. It was Richard’s birthday and we had a fantastic party. Admittedly, I was exhausted most of the day, after the adventures of last night, which included dropping the card off, baking cupcakes, and burning a mix cd for Richard. But it was perfect. And not just because the evening plans went off without a single hitch.

I love my little group of friends. I love that some of us have known each other for years and some for only months, but I am equally comfortable with everyone. I get to be myself and I know that it’s okay. I’m not trying to impress anyone. I can openly say, “you all know that the filter between my brain and my mouth is rarely functioning properly,” and they just laugh because they know it’s true, but they still love me.

I’m sure you can all think of those times in your life when you have just been happy. And not just situationaly content, but really, truly, genuinely happy. The kind of happy that doesn’t go away even when you’re having a bad day. The happy that lives deep inside of you.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been this happy. It’s a great feeling. And I love that I have lived enough life to be able to recognize this while it is going on, instead of after it passes. It feels like this:
