registration madness!

We had a little registration get together tonight. What does that mean? It means that we could register for classes at midnight and so I ensured that a group of us had something to do between the hours of 9 and 11…and some until 1:00 am.

For some reason (I know the reason and it involves Julie and Lagoon), we all ended up with high, side ponytails and our friend, Brian, decided to snap a couple of shots. I love the first one because you can really see what is going on. I love the second because you can really see who we are.
I can’t believe I just registered for the last classes I will take as an MBA student. This is all going by way too fast. Maybe if I slept more it wouldn’t feel so ridiculous? I’m getting sad just thinking about it…although I do have great things (and friends who I miss dearly) on the horizon in NYC, so it’s really just a little bittersweet.
And in case you are all wondering, I did actually register for certain classes based on the fact that they didn’t interfere with my skiing time. Last winter in Utah for a while and you better believe that I’m going to take full advantage of it.

a photo shoot with some visitors of the kansas variety

First of all, how have I not blogged in almost three weeks? Okay, I know the answer to that question, but sad.

Second, and more importantly…these three lovely people were in town this weekend, so this morning we had a little photo shoot. I always get super nervous taking pictures for people when they actually hope one is going to turn out…but thankfully, I got a lot of cute shots. Here are a couple of them. And I’m not saying are my absolute favorites, but they were the quickest to get edited and up on the blog.

P.S. I’m not sure why these look so pixelated, but sleep is at a premium these days, so I’m not going to worry about it.
P.S. #2 The actions I used are Pioneer Woman’s Old West (I customized it) and Pioneer Woman’s Quick Edge Burn

playing with actions (or what i am doing while i should be getting ready for church)

This is the Conservatory Garden…part of the oh so beautiful and amazing Central Park. Sarah and I went at the very beginning of my summer in NYC. It was overcast…but that made for lovely pictures especially since almost no one was there (minus a little wedding that was happening). I love this little walk. Like the oh so famous Poet’s Walk, but much smaller and less populous. Anyway…I applied a few different actions to this (most from The Pioneer Woman) and I am loving them! The photo above is the original…and then you can see just how many different things you can do with a little Photoshop. (Some of the differences are super subtle…but don’t let that fool you!)

And here is my lovely friend, Julie…the beautiful bride, and her best friend, Natalie. The photo looked pretty good to begin with (that’s how it works when you have pretty friends), but I loved giving it a totally different feel with a little action application.

Now, I don’t necessarily love all of these actions for this particular photo (it’s kind of fun how certain styles just don’t work for certain events), but it is fun to see them all.

julie and greg got married

Note: Before looking through the pictures, please understand that I was not the official photographer, which is why a) the majority of the pictures I took were at an angle (I refuse to get in the photographers way or give anyone another camera to look at) and b) I have no pics of just Julie and Greg. Those happened after I had already left for the reception.

This is the only picture I’m going to comment on. Can you see just how much Julie’s dad loves her? I love this picture because I feel like it comes pretty dang close to capturing everything I felt looking at them.

Okay, and maybe this one. The man you see on the left is not Greg, but Julie’s brother, Rob. Julie and this brother are particularly close. Due to the fact that the wedding was in Boston and Rob lives in Alaska, he was not going to be there. Well, a little sibling scheming took place (unbeknownst to Julie and her parents) and Rob showed up in Boston late Friday night. We were all excited to see Julie’s reaction when she saw him. Seriously, it wouldn’t have been better if someone had scripted and directed the scene. Julie walked into the room in the temple, totally oblivious. Her mom tried to make her look. Nothing. Then, suddenly, she saw him. She stopped breathing momentarily, walked out of the room, and began to sob–think Emma Thompson at the end of Sense and Sensibility, right after Hugh Grant comes back and explains that he is not married. Yes…it was just like that. We were all in tears by the time she came back into the room.

a little boston preview

My darling friend, Julie, got married on Saturday. Unfortunately, because I’m not obsessed with Photoshop, it may take a while to get all of the pictures up. In the meantime…here are two that I decided to really play with. I love it!

In addition to more photos, I’ll have more to say as well. But for now, let me just say that it was probably one of the most perfect weddings I’ve ever had the privilege of attending.
